Through an analysis of more than 50 career categories in its database, FlexJobs compared the total number of 100% remote job postings between January and December 2024 to determine the emerging remote career categories with at least 17% or more growth over the past year.
A “fully remote” opening is defined as any professional-level role that allows the worker to perform their job entirely from home. The top 20 career categories are ranked in order from highest to lowest growth in the availability of remote opportunities.

Of the fast-growing career categories, engineering, business development and data entry saw the most significant expansion in the last year. Communications, client services, operations, nursing, sales and account management closely followed, with each category scaling by more than 40% in the number of remote job postings.
Building on momentum from previous years, education and training, medical and health, product and bilingual fields showed steady expansion, while remote opportunities in the social media and administrative industries jumped by 17%.
The ranking excludes career categories that routinely dominate the remote job marketplace, such as computer and IT, customer service and project management, and instead focuses on the emerging industries to demonstrate the varied career opportunities as the work landscape continues to evolve.
“Remote work is a non-negotiable for the majority of today’s talent, so it’s encouraging to see such a diverse range of industries presented on this year’s list that are providing professionals with more opportunities to work flexibly,” said Toni Frana, Lead Career Expert at FlexJobs. “This is a positive development for both professionals seeking work-life balance and employers looking to attract top talent in a competitive market.”
