Hybrid work is one of the most desired flexible work arrangements for today’s workers, with a recent FlexJobs® survey reporting that nearly half (40%) of U.S. job seekers prefer a hybrid job moving forward. To help professionals connect to hybrid work opportunities this fall, FlexJobs has identified the five fastest-growing career fields for hybrid jobs.

FlexJobs defines a “hybrid job” as any professional-level role that blends in-person and remote work, allowing employees to work at home part of the time. Analyzing more than 60 career categories in its database, FlexJobs compared the total number of hybrid job postings between March 1 and August 31, 2025, to find the emerging hybrid career categories with at least 30% or more growth over the past six months.

5 Fastest-Growing Career Fields for Hybrid Jobs

The fastest-growing career categories with at least a 30% increase in hybrid jobs included:

  1. Communications
  2. Insurance
  3. Sales
  4. Environmental
  5. Legal

Of the top five career categories, communications showed the highest growth rate and more than doubled in hybrid job listings over the past six months. Insurance, sales, environmental, and legal fields closely followed, with each scaling at least 30% in the total number of hybrid job postings.

FlexJobs’ ranking excludes career categories that routinely lead the hybrid and flexible job marketplace, including computer and IT, project management, accounting and finance, marketing, and customer service.

“Identifying the best industries for hybrid work is a great starting point for workers, but it’s only part of the equation,” said Toni Frana, Career Expert Manager at FlexJobs. “Hybrid job seekers need to take it a step further by researching how prospective employers are defining and implementing hybrid work. These policies can vary significantly from company to company, so it’s critical to understand the specifics and whether the structure aligns with short and long term career goals.”

According to FlexJobs’ career experts, successful hybrid work requires more than just dividing time between the office and remote settings and requires thoughtful planning and careful execution from employers. Without a well-thought-out approach, there is a risk for a toxic hybrid work environment. Key red flags that may signal a problematic hybrid environment include:

  • No clearly defined hybrid work policy
  • Poor work-life balance
  • High employee turnover
  • Lack of trust between leadership and staff
  • Inconsistent or unclear communication across the company
