UCP of Central Arizona announces new CEO

Kentay Garvin, Esq., is the new CEO of United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Central Arizona. Garvin brings a fresh perspective to the nonprofit organization thanks to more than 20 years of government affairs, business and health care expertise.

“I am both honored and humbled to be part of the leadership team responsible for helping United Cerebral Palsy of Central Arizona advance it’s mission of delivering services to individuals with disabilities across the life span,” Garvin said.

Garvin holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and a law degree from Georgetown University. He is a seasoned strategic and operational executive with a broad background in Medicaid and Medicare. He has proven to be an innovative leader with the skillset to execute profitable growth and operational efficiency initiatives for companies of all sizes.

“We are focused on positioning UCP of Central Arizona to be a center of excellence for our therapy clinics, to be the provider of choice for home and community-based services and as a resource for families in our community to help take care of their loved ones with disabilities,” Garvin added. “The future for UCP of Central Arizona and the people it serves is both exciting and limitless.” 

For more than 70 years, United Cerebral Palsy of Central Arizona has served families across the Valley. As the oldest healthcare-related nonprofit organization in the state, UCP of Central Arizona provides comprehensive services to individuals with disabilities and their families by providing physical and developmental support as well as educational growth for infants, children and adults. Currently they serve more than 500 clients from infants to adults.

SmithGroup hires Carrie Perrone to lead Phoenix higher education studio

SmithGroup, one of the nation’s leading integrated design firms, has hired Carrie Perrone as Higher Education Studio Leader in its Phoenix office. The move marks Perrone’s return to SmithGroup, where she previously served as a Principal and Education Strategist with a focus on planning and designing learning environments. In her new role, Perrone will lead a team of Higher Education experts and partner with institutions throughout the Southwest to create vital places for inspired learning.

A registered architect with over 20 years of experience, including 12 years at SmithGroup, Perrone delves into higher education clients’ processes and institutional goals, arriving at a shared vision for how the built environment can support students. She has led complex projects for institutions like the University of Arizona, Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University, as well as the development of engaged learning typologies.  

“Carrie’s work pushes the boundaries of the typical to champion engaging, student-centered environments,” said Chris Purdy, Higher Education Practice Director at SmithGroup. “From designing immersive learning spaces for the Integrated Education Building at Gateway Community College to most recently leading Arizona State University’s New Academic Building in Tempe, she consistently leads her clients through a collaborative process that directly responds to the specific priorities of their institutions.”

Perrone graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Arizona. She is a licensed architect, a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and a LEED AP certified professional.  

AAED executive director appointed to IEDC public policy committee

Carrie Kelly, Executive Director of the Arizona Association for Economic Development (AAED) has been appointed Chair of the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) Public Policy Advisory Committee.

Appointed Vice Chair was Bradley Comment, Senior Vice President, Strategic Initiatives, Right Place, in Michigan. Kelly and Comment were appointed by Jonas Peterson, Chairman of the IEDC Board. 

The committee monitors and reviews the organization’s legislative affairs and federal relations by establishing a list of key legislative issues to be monitored, recommending strategic and policy actions, and providing guidance on the content of the annual Economic Development Summit. Arizona is hosting the IEDC 2023 Leadership Summit Jan. 29-31 in Tucson.

“This is an opportunity for Arizona to further establish itself as a leader on federal economic development policy development and advocate for issues important to the state and its economic development endeavors,” Kelly said. “I look forward to working with the committee members and the IEDC Board of Directors to create the best policy environment for our economic developers.”

Jason Greenwood named SVP at Delta Dental of Arizona

Delta Dental of Arizona announced that Jason Greenwood has joined the dental insurer’s executive team as its senior vice president of marketing and communications. In this role, Greenwood will oversee brand strategy, growth initiatives, digital media and stakeholder engagement initiatives.

Greenwood brings more than 25 years of experience to the position. Prior to joining Delta Dental, he served as chief marketing officer of The Joint Chiropractic (NASDAQ: JYNT), which is the nation’s largest operator, manager and franchisor of chiropractic clinics with 805 retail units nationwide. Under his leadership, the business saw exponential growth and earned numerous brand accolades, including being named “America’s Best Small Company” by Forbes and among the top three fastest growing companies in the nation by Fortune.

Greenwood also spent a decade with Peter Piper Pizza, the popular pizza and entertainment restaurant with 150 units across the United States and Mexico, including several years as the chief marketing officer where he led brand strategy, product development and customer experience. He was also a multi-unit franchisee for Robeks and spent several years at Young & Rubicam Advertising, creating growth strategies for high-profile clients like Ford Motor Company.

Greenwood earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Eastern Michigan University and his master’s degree in international business from Wayne State University.

Transwestern strengthens Phoenix team

Transwestern Real Estate Services (TRS) announces that Paul Borgesen III and Dylan Sproul have joined its Phoenix office as Senior Vice President and Vice President, respectively, on the Capital Markets and National Net Lease | Sale Leaseback team. The experienced duo has completed 12,000,000 square feet in building sales, ground-up development, and project consulting across the Greater Phoenix market.

He received numerous SVN awards, including the President’s Club and Partners’ Circle. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Criminal Justice from Arizona State University and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. He holds an Arizona Real Estate Salesperson license and is a member of the NAIOP Young Professionals Group and the Urban Land Institute.

Sproul joined SVN Desert Commercial Advisors as an intern and worked his way up to Senior Advisor. He specialized in the acquisition, disposition, and leasing of commercial real estate in Arizona for investors, owner occupiers, and tenants and was a member of SVN’s national Corporate Real Estate Services team. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance with a minor in Real Estate from Arizona State University. He is a member of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) and the Urban Land Institute.
