On Friday, April 5, 2019, the Scottsdale Active 20-30 Club will host its annual charity sporting competition called Brokers for Kids and Agents Benefitting Children. Commercial and residential real estate teams compete in a four month fundraising contest culminating with a one-day Olympiad sporting competition at Scottsdale Stadium. Last year’s Brokers for Kids and Agents Benefitting Children event raised over $457,000 for Arizona based children’s charities. This year, Brokers for Kids will celebrate its 20th anniversary and is looking to surpass its prior year’s fundraising total and team participation.
“I am truly honored to be this year’s Chairman for Phoenix’s signature commercial real estate fundraising event. We can’t wait to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Brokers for Kids with another incredible year of raising money for the kids. Not only is this a day of fun events and networking but most importantly, it will make a positive impact on the community,” says Brokers for Kids Chairman, Scott Ellsworth.
Typically, more than 700 participants turn out for the event. Throughout the year, residential and commercial real estate teams raise money through various fundraising efforts for two charities, Boys Hope Girls Hope and the Care Fund. On the Brokers for Kids side, the commercial real estate team that raises the most money will receive the coveted Broker’s Cup. For Agents Benefitting Children, the residential team that raises the most money will be awarded with the Agent’s Cup.
“When we started Brokers for Kids 20 years ago, we had eight teams and raised $25,000. To see it today with over 40 teams and consistently raising over $400,000 is remarkable. I applaud the Scottsdale Active 20-30 Club, and the Brokers for Kids and Agents Benefitting Children participating teams for their dedication to raising money for kids,” says Brokers for Kids Founder, Keaton Merrell.
Boys Hope Girls Hope is a non-profit that provides scholarships to underprivileged youth in both community-based and residency-based programs, ensuring a good start towards a college education. The Care Fund provides mortgage, rent, and/or housing expense relief, as well as related lifestyle resources for families during a child’s extended health crisis.
“The support that the Scottsdale Active 20-30 Club provides to Boys Hope Girls Hope and our scholars, is priceless! Actually, it has a huge price tag – one that provides housing, basic needs, private education, emotional support and guidance all the way through college. Their support helps young people make a positive, permanent change in their lives. In addition to the tangible support, the 20-30 Club members are amazing role models and sources of encouragement and inspiration for our scholars. They interact and get to know members at BBQ’s, events, and gatherings and see the hard work these men are doing out of the goodness of their hearts,” says Boys Hope Girls Hope of Arizona Executive Director, Amy Pfeifer. “Boys Hope Girls Hope is incredibly grateful for the investment and partnership of the 20-30 Club!”
The participating teams will battle it out at the Olympiad competition on April 5th at Scottsdale Stadium. Sporting events include football, basketball, bocce ball, and bag toss, with the top four teams competing in dodgeball for the coveted Olympiad trophy. This year, the event will also add a home run derby competition for a chance to win an all-inclusive trip.
While this event is not open to the public, Brokers for Kids/Agents Benefitting Children is always seeking new teams and sponsorship opportunities within the commercial and residential real estate industries. Participating teams are not limited to agents or brokers, but those involved in the industry.
