During this time of uncertainty and dismay, two local chefs are asking others to help feed those that would normally be feeding us; our food industry workers. With the current state of restaurant, bar, and event businesses, thousands in the industry are without work and not able to sign up for unemployment.
Chef Marissa Roegado and Chef Kellie Roegado are asking the community to donate to a GoFundMe or for perishable food from restaurants that have closed their doors to create a to-go meal for anyone that is currently out-of-work in the food industry. This meal will be available for pick-up on Saturday, March 21 from 3:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. at 1044 E Gary Way, Phoenix, AZ 85042. The chefs and a small group of volunteers will run meals out to cars that pull up.
“Many incredible employees have lost their jobs and are worrying about how they will live during these next weeks or months. We know its not going to help pay their bills, but we are hoping that this meal will at least be something to put a smile on their faces. Our culinary friends need to stand strong as we all go through this together. When this passes, we want everyone to be united as a food community,” says Chef Marissa.
