Life can present circumstances that are extremely challenging at times and heavily impact mothers and families everywhere. This year’s annual Mother’s Grace Mother’s Day event on May 9 celebrates 10 years for the Phoenix-based non-profit organization, dedicated to supporting mothers and children dealing with the adversity of overwhelming life events.

Mother’s Grace has helped more than 6,000 mothers and children get back on their feet. Nearly a dozen nonprofits have been established out of tragedy, numerous community organizations have been impacted with support through grants, and $3 million in funding has been raised.

My own personal experience with breast cancer and learning that my young son had Type 1 diabetes in 2008, opened my eyes and made me realize that members of our community go through personal crisis situations on a regular basis, and it’s vitally important to help one another.

This life-altering situation inspired me to create Mother’s Grace a decade ago. Today, we have countless volunteers who help and assist women by way of financial assistance for monthly bills, medications, meals, housekeeping, childcare, transportation and ancillary services. The Mother’s Grace Board of Directors, made up of 12 professional women across the Valley, provide professional guidance and grants for mothers aiming to start their own non-profit organizations and follow their dreams.

The key message in all of this is nobody ever knows if and when they will be put into a difficult situation and as a community, we must do things to help one another. Something as simple as taking an hour out of your time to help prepare meals or to volunteer at a fundraising event can make all the difference. It’s efforts like this that have made Mother’s Grace so rewarding for me over the last 10 years.

Each year, Mother’s Grace hosts a fundraising event to spread awareness of its efforts and seek support. This year’s Mother’s Day brunch

May 9 will feature luxury raffle prizes from our sponsors including The Ducey Family Foundation, Isaac Jewelry, The Davis Experience, Steak 44 and Dominick’s restaurants, Galicia Fine Jewelry, Desert Vista Dental and Earnhardt Family Auto Dealerships.

I happen to believe that it is important to encourage people to give back to their community because you never know when it’s going to be you. Mother’s Grace has proved over the last 10 years that it really does make a difference in people’s lives. As an organization, we are always seeking volunteers and donations and feel that it is important to give back in any way possible. Everyone deserves kindness and a lending hand, and even the smallest gesture can make the biggest difference.
