Phoenix Rescue Mission announced today it reached a record-breaking milestone during its 4th Annual Code:Red Summer Heat Relief Campaign, collecting 1,157,845 bottles of water for the homeless and elderly shut-ins during the four-month campaign.
In celebration of the achievement, Phoenix Rescue Mission hosted its first-ever Code:Red Donor Appreciation Breakfast, last Thursday.
“This milestone is a direct reflection of our community’s ongoing commitment to protect our most vulnerable population during such a dangerous time of year,” said Phoenix Rescue Mission CEO Jay Cory. “With the support of the public, several municipalities, and our campaign sponsors (Lerner & Rowe and Affinity Kitchen), Code:Red has not only expanded each year but has saved so many lives. In fact, according to Maricopa County officials, heat-related deaths have steadily declined since we first launched Code:Red in 2013.”
As temperatures remain high, Phoenix Rescue Mission is still accepting donations for water, socks, sunscreen, hats, toiletries and other heat relief items. All donations can be dropped off at the nonprofit’s Mission Support Center and Donation Warehouse (1468 N. 26th Avenue in Phoenix), Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
