Managing Director Patrick Dempsey joins HFF’s Phoenix office

Holliday Fenoglio Fowler, L.P. (HFF) announced that it has expanded its investment advisory team with the addition of managing director Patrick Dempsey in its Phoenix office.  

Mr. Dempsey will focus on retail investment advisory and capital markets transactions in Phoenix and the southwestern United States.  In his 30-plus year career, he has completed more than 30 million square feet in transactions valued in excess of $4.7 billion.  Mr. Dempsey joins HFF from Lee & Associates where he was a principal and member of the top performing investment sales team since 1996.  Prior thereto, he worked at Grubb & Ellis Commercial Brokerage and began his career with Pacific Southwest Realty Services.  Mr. Dempsey is an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers, is a licensed Arizona real estate broker and has earned the National Association of Realtor’s CCIM designation.  Mr. Dempsey has a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing from the University of Arizona

OneAZ Credit Union appoints EVP of retail sales

OneAZ Credit Union announced the appointment of Laura Worzella as the company’s new Executive Vice President of Retail Sales. Worzella hails from Denver, Colorado, where she held various positions at Wells Fargo including Community Bank Senior Vice President.

“Coming to OneAZ has been like coming home,” Worzella says of her new position. “Working here has reminded me what it’s like to work in a place where the customers and members are truly our #1 priority — and the employees and associates are valued above all else!”

In her previous role, Worzella managed 43 branches, 836 team members, 74 ATMs, $5 billion in deposits and $700 million in loans. New to the Phoenix area, Worzella brings more than 18 years of experience, 16 of which are dedicated to bank management, to her role at OneAZ Credit Union. Prior to her work with Wells Fargo in Denver, she served as the Gulf South Community Bank President and Retail Banking Director for the Greater East Bay Desert team in California and Nevadas, as well as District Manager of the Greenville, Rocky Mount and Eastern North Carolina teams.

Worzella is passionate about giving back to the communities in which she resides, being previously involved with organizations in the Denver metro area such as Denver Rescue Mission, Habitat for Humanity and March of Dimes, the latter two of which she sat on their boards. Worzella is a wife and mother of two children.

Meghan Coppock, who joined Save the Family as Client Service Liaison in April, has been named Development and Events Manager and Jamie Podratz has been named Marketing and Outreach Manager.

Coppock, an Arizona native who lives in Gilbert, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with an emphasis in women and gender studies from Arizona State University. 

Podratz, who lives in Mesa after relocating from Minnesota, has spent her entire career working in philanthropy and for nonprofit organizations, serving as development officer and officer and program officer for a national Native American organization before leading a small youth-focused environmental education nonprofit in Minneapolis.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Iowa State University and a Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law.

SBA appoints new communications director

The U.S. Small Business Administration today announced the appointment of Miryam Barajas as Communications Director for SBA Region IX covering California, Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii, Guam, and American Samoa.

“The SBA serves more than 4.8 million small business owners in this Region which includes the world’s most dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem,” said Region IX Administrator Michael Vallante. “Miryam will play a key leadership role in the region as the SBA helps small businesses up, scale up, create jobs, and continue this country’s unprecedented economic growth,” said Vallante.

Barajas will lead SBA’s press, branding, social media, and communications initiatives for the Region which includes nine SBA district offices in California, Nevada, Arizona, and Hawaii.  She will serve as the agency’s bilingual spokesperson in Region IX, and develop strategic opportunities to showcase the impacts of SBA programs that connect small business owners with capital and loans, support them obtaining government contracts, and provide them with free consulting and counseling from SBA resource partners. 

A seasoned communications professional, Barajas joined SBA after working for the State of California Water Quality Control Board as an information officer where she served as spokesperson to local, state and national media on all issues related to water quality, including communicating to rural communities on groundwater contamination.
