As Dr. Seuss says, “The more that you read, the more things you will know.”  But reports this week indicated that as many as 40 percent of Arizona’s third graders are not minimally proficient readers.

On March 2 Keep It Cut salons will participate in Read Across America Day. The reading awareness program is held each year on Dr. Suess’ birthday as a way to encourage every child to read a book. To recognize the day, Keep It Cut will give people who donate a book at any of their three locations the chance to win a one-year membership – that’s free haircuts for a year! Not to mention the support to giving children books to read more and better.

To participate just bring a book to a Keep It Cut salon in Tempe, Ahwatukee or Phoenix and get one entry in the drawing. If you donate a Dr. Seuss book, you’ll get two entries in the drawing.  Donated books will be given to local libraries. For more details about hours and locations, visit keepitcut.com.
