Superintendent John Huppenthal announced that Molly E. Edwards was named public information officer for the Arizona Department of Education on May 21, replacing Andrew LeFevre.

With more than 14 years experience in government affairs and media relations, Edwards served as manager of the City of Scottsdale’s Community Mediation Program and subsequently the Housing Resources Program. Most recently she served as Marketing Manager at the law firm of Polsinelli Shughart.

Superintendent Huppenthal announced, “Molly is a great addition to my team at the Department of Education.  Her passion for education, dedication to public service and experience working with the media are strong assets. I am extremely pleased to have someone of Molly’s caliber on my team.”

Her background includes a term as president of the World Affairs Council of Arizona and completion of the Global Leadership Executive Program at the Thunderbird Garvin School of International Management. She is a recent graduate of the Flinn-Brown Civic Leadership Academy, as well as a graduate of the FBI Citizens Academy, Valley Leadership and Scottsdale Leadership. In 2007, she was chosen by the Phoenix Business Journal as one of its “40 under 40” honorees.

Edwards earned a degree in urban planning and environmental design from Arizona State University, and is currently a Master’s/Ph.D. candidate in the political science program at Northern Arizona University.
