Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) officials have announced that Governor Douglas A. Ducey has designated the week of Sept. 21-27 by proclamation as P2 Week. ADEQ invites the general public, schools, local governments, and businesses to be a part of P2 Week by incorporating activities in your daily routine that reduce, reuse and recycle waste.

Governor Ducey noted that “National Pollution Prevention Week is an opportunity for government and the private sector to acknowledge the benefits of pollution prevention and work collaboratively toward a prosperous future.”

ADEQ encourages all Arizonans to support its mission of protecting and enhancing public health and the environment by getting involved in P2 Week and trying a few P2 activities that apply P2 principles and engaging neighbors and colleagues in the dialogue. ADEQ offers the following resources to help you make a positive impact:

ADEQ also will host free P2 webinars during P2 Week that showcase examples of successful strategies implemented by ADEQ P2 Program participants, which in addition to reducing pollution, increased efficiency and saved money.

“ADEQ is proud to host these free webinars that share valuable, real-world lessons and knowledge about how practicing pollution prevention can increase revenue and create significant cost savings through material and resource conservation and improved efficiency, not to mention lower risk, liability, disposal costs and regulatory burdens, all while facilitating environmental compliance,” said ADEQ Director Misael Cabrera.

Arizona businesses meeting any one of three P2 thresholds are required to create and implement a plan to minimize the use of toxic substances and/or the generation of hazardous waste.
