The employees of NRG Energy Inc., raised $20,000—matched by NRG for a total donation of $40,000—to help fund services for the homeless in Phoenix, AZ. The funds will go to Human Services Campus (HSC), a Phoenix-based nonprofit that helps homeless individuals overcome challenges and reintegrate into society.
“As NRG’s business footprint has grown in Arizona, we want to do our part in helping improve the communities where our employees live and work,” said Tom Doyle, president of NRG’s western region. “At a recent Company event held in Phoenix, our employees responded enthusiastically to the welcome we’ve received in Arizona by raising these needed funds to help the Human Services Campus assist those in the community who need it most.”
HSC operates on an 11-acre campus that brings more than a dozen agencies together in one place to help people experiencing homelessness. By creating a “one-stop-shop” for services, HSC staff can literally walk clients from one agency to another, ensuring newcomers receive the care and attention they need.
“Each day, over 1,000 homeless men and women come to the HSC to meet their basic needs, but more importantly they have access to case management, medical care, employment services, and ultimately supportive housing services and programs necessary to permanently and sustainably end their homelessness,” said David Bridge, managing director, Human Services Campus. “With the generous help of our community leaders such as NRG, the Campus meets its mission to use the power of collaboration to create solutions to end homelessness.”
Jim Lodge, Vice President and General Manager of NRG presented the check on Monday, June 25, 2012 to staff and board members of the HSC. “We are very proud of our staff and we believe this investment in the Arizona community is the beginning of a great ongoing relationship between NRG and the Human Services Campus.”
NRG provides distributed solar and district cooling services to Arizona businesses, schools and organizations, plus helps make METRO riders more comfortable with a solar-powered rail station cooling system. The Company is also building two large-scale solar projects in the state: the 290 MW Agua Caliente project in Yuma County and a 25 MW project at Avra Valley near Tucson.
