The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada again awarded the city of Goodyear the prestigious Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2013.

The award was announced this month and is the highest form of recognition in the areas of government accounting financial reporting. It marks the sixth straight year that Goodyear has won the award for effectively communicating its financial story with full disclosure and to motivate existing and potential user groups to read it.

In addition, an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement will be presented to those responsible for preparing the report.

“We pride ourselves on smart spending and financial reporting,” said Larry Lange, director of the city of Goodyear’s Finance Department. “Following the association’s guidelines helps us show a clearer picture of our accounting so our citizens know how closely we monitor taxpayer dollars.”

Earlier this year, Goodyear was awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the GFOA – which highlights the city’s long-standing methods of fiscal responsibility – marking the 13th straight year and 18th time overall the finance department won the award.

GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving about 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
