Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), a leading health and well-being company, was recognized recently by the Healthy Arizona Worksite Program for achieving the Platinum Award level of excellence in worksite wellness. Humana is one of the first companies to achieve the Platinum level, which was introduced this year.

The Healthy Arizona Worksite Award recognizes employers that are making efforts to positively affect the health and well-being of their employees, their families and their community by implementing comprehensive worksite wellness strategies. The minimum qualifications to be considered for this award include attending the Healthy Arizona Worksite Program training and developing a plan to improve employee health and safety.

To qualify for the new Platinum level, businesses had to be at the Gold level and to demonstrate making an impact both within and beyond their walls to address one or more of the many health challenges impacting communities across the state. Platinum level awardees demonstrated data-driven programming while leveraging cross-sector collaborations or partnerships that improved the health, well-being, and equity of their community.

Humana partnered with Southwest Human Development, the local Easter Seals affiliate, to positively impact literacy in the Phoenix community. Locally, Southwest Human Development executes the Little Free Library program, a nationwide effort to build and place “take one, leave one” book stations. Humana took on a project to collect books and build several libraries for Southwest Human Development. As a result of Humana’s involvement, more than 12,500 books were collected and 22 libraries built. This project positively impacted Southwest Human Development’s goal to place 100 Little Free Libraries in the Valley by helping them reach more than 20 percent of their goal while filling the libraries with books.

“Humana is proud to be one of the first companies to achieve Platinum Award status this year in the Healthy Arizona Worksite Award program,” said Victoria Coley, Desert State’s Vice President for Humana’s Group and Specialty segment. “Humana is a big believer in wellness both at work and at home. We not only provide wellness tools to our associates through our Go365 program but to our employer groups as well because we understand the positive health impact and cost reductions that a solid workplace wellness can have both on the employer and its employees.”

Humana will receive the Platinum Award at an awards ceremony on June 15, 2017, in Phoenix.
