On July 2, 2013, the Midwestern University Arizona College of Optometry (AZCOPT) received accreditation notification by letter for its Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) graduate degree program from the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE). The ACOE classified AZCOPT’s “Accredited” status for the maximum term of eight years.

The notice was based on the ACOE’s evaluation of the report from the Council’s site visit on April 21 – 24, 2013 and was voted upon by the Council at its Annual Meeting in late June. The classification of “Accredited” indicates that AZCOPT’s doctoral program meets and is in compliance with ACOE accreditation standards.

“The full accreditation of our College of Optometry is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the college leadership, faculty and staff,” said Kathleen H. Goeppinger, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Midwestern University. “They have developed a very strong curriculum, excellent on campus training in the Eye Institute, and have mentored and motivated the students to excel in their studies. The ACOE acknowledgement of the University meeting and exceeding all accreditation standards makes all of us very proud.”

AZCOPT graduated its inaugural class of optometrists in May 2013 and is currently accepting student applications. For information about the College or for more information about the University’s 12 other healthcare graduate degree programs, visit http://www.midwestern.edu or call 623/572-3215.
