As cities across the country face growing deficits, putting jobs and services at risk, Airbnb released a new report analyzing its economic impact in the US. Notably, the report found that travel on Airbnb generated more than $90 billion in economic activity across the US — including in communities without hotels that would not otherwise benefit from tourism spending. In Arizona alone, Airbnb helped generate approximately $3.4 billion in 2024, including:

  • An estimated 42,000 jobs supported by guest spending
  • An estimated $2 billion in labor income
  • Approximately $867 million in total tax revenue 

In fact, the typical Airbnb guest in the state spent an additional $830 on restaurants, entertainment, shopping, and other local businesses on their trip, helping to bring tourism spending to communities and supporting local economies.

  • The typical Airbnb guest spent more than $775 per trip on restaurants, entertainment, shopping, and other local businesses  — and nearly 50% of guest spending stayed in the neighborhood of their Airbnb.
  • Travel on Airbnb generated over $25 billion in total tax revenue across the US, including $2.4 billion in tourism-related taxes
