BACKGROUND: Christine Whalin is a trial lawyer practicing for more than 15 years in the area of criminal defense. She focuses on representing individuals in all types of criminal cases ranging from state and federal felony and misdemeanor matters, along with school discipline and Title IX litigation. Throughout her career, Whalin has represented countless clients on their criminal cases, achieving successful results in the form of dismissals, reduced sentences and complete acquittals after jury trial. She represents people in any type of criminal matter, and is particularly skilled in handling major felony cases involving sexual misconduct, sexual assault and other serious “life-in-prison” allegations. In addition, she is extremely successful in handling pre-charge matters and having those investigations closed and not filed.

CAREER PATH INSPIRATION: “Helping people inspired my present career path. As a young public criminal defense attorney, I found my practice rewarding but felt more could be done. In transitioning to private practice at DM Cantor, I handle a wider variety of criminal cases and help people all over Arizona navigate the toughest times of their lives.”

SOURCE OF PRIDE: “My proudest career accomplishment was achieving the designation as a Board-Certified Criminal Law Specialist by the State Bar of Arizona. As one of only 65 criminal attorneys in Arizona and one of only 12 women with this designation, this accomplishment marks my reputation in the field and my dedication to my clients.”

SOURCE OF INSPIRATION: “I would credit my law partner, David Cantor, as someone who has supported me throughout my professional journey. David took me on as an associate attorney in 2010 and was a driving force behind many of my successes. He reminded me that if I was waiting until ‘later’ or doing something ‘less,’ I was probably making the wrong decision for the client.”

SURPRISING FACT: “A little-known fact about me that may surprise most people is that I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 32 years old. Since then, I have been active with the Desert West Chapter of JDRF in promoting fundraising to research better treatments, preventions, and, ultimately, a cure for T1D.”
