Kim Shepard named Cigna market president

Cigna has named Kim Shepard as market president for its commercial health care and related benefits plans in Arizona.  Shepard is returning to the Arizona market, where she previously served for several years as vice president of sales.  She is based in Phoenix.

In her new role, Shepard’s responsibilities include driving market growth by creating customer value and ensuring that the local market strategy, product and network offerings meet evolving customer and client needs. She will also partner with area health care professionals and health systems, including Cigna Medical Group, to help improve the health of Cigna customers, and lead Cigna’s efforts to serve the communities of Arizona.

“Kim brings both significant experience in the health care and benefits industries and a passion for serving our customers to her new role,” said Ralph Holmes, Cigna regional vice president for Arizona and Texas.  “She already has strong ties in Arizona and will help Cigna continue to be the partner of choice for employers, health care providers, community organizations and customers in the state.” 

CRE veteran Michael P. Garlick takes helm of NKF

Newmark Knight Frank (NKF) announced that Michael P. Garlick has been appointed as market leader of its Phoenix office, with the promotion to executive managing director. Mr. Garlick will oversee the office and lead all brokerage operations and growth initiatives for the greater Phoenix area. Mr. Garlick replaces industry giant Pete Bolton, who left the company in May of 2017 to pursue new ventures.

NKF veteran Mr. Garlick brings 24 years of commercial real estate expertise alongside his extensive knowledge of the Phoenix office market, established long-term industry relationships, and notable reputation for providing uncompromising client advocacy services. In his role as executive managing director, Mr. Garlick will focus on aligning the goals and objectives of local brokerage with NKF’s overall strategic direction, working toward strengthening the brand while continuing to increase shareholder value. He will provide leadership of day-to-day operations for the Phoenix office as well as manage brokerage profitability, business line growth, development, strategic planning, recruiting and retention.

SmithGroupJJR promotes Mitrovic and Sanders

SmithGroupJJR, one of the nation’s largest design firms, has promoted Stephanie Mitrovic to Science & Technology studio leader and Russ Sanders to Workplace studio leader at the firm’s Phoenix office.

Stephanie Mitrovic, AIA, the Phoenix office’s new Science & Technology studio leader, will cultivate the studio, maintain client relationships, and build new avenues to connect with future clients. In her prior role as lead interior designer, she was  involved with some of the firm’s most noteworthy science and technology and workplace projects including the National Renewable Energy Laboratory Energy System Integration Facility, Golden, Colorado; the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency Forensic Identification Laboratory, Hickam Air Force Base, Oahu, Hawaii;  and the new Axon Headquarters, Scottsdale, Arizona, slated to start construction in 2019. Mitrovic is a licensed architect and registered interior designer whose primary focus has been science and technology, higher education and corporate clients.

Mitrovic received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior design from Virginia Commonwealth University followed by a Master of Architecture from Arizona State University, during which she earned a Capstone Thesis on Urbanism and Public Interest from Universidad Torcuato di Tella in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She holds architectural registration in Arizona, is certified with the National Council of Interior Design Qualification as an Exam Ambassador, and is a member of the American Institute of Architects.

Russ Sanders, AIA, the Phoenix office’s new Workplace studio leader, will oversee the studio’s project delivery and business development efforts throughout the Southwest U.S. region. Simultaneously, he will continue to engage clients such as the City of Phoenix, Caterpillar and the City of Eloy, Arizona. Sanders was previously a leader in the office’s Workplace studio and served in the role of senior project manager, where he focused on the development and management of complex architectural projects such as Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport’s Terminal 3 Modernization project.

Bret Roy joins Circle the City

Bret Roy recently joined Circle the City as Chief Development Officer, bringing more than 20 years of executive leadership, account management, and team development experience to the organization.

Roy will direct the nonprofit’s fundraising, development, and awareness efforts, providing strategic leadership to support Circle the City’s mission of providing high quality, holistic healthcare to men, women, and children facing homelessness in Maricopa County. He will help leverage existing and potential philanthropic opportunities to increase Circle the City’s capacity to expand its efforts in providing compassionate healthcare services to the homeless.

“Bret’s vast experience in development and fundraising in both the healthcare and commercial sectors, will be a major asset to Circle the City,” said Circle the City’s CEO Brandon Clark. “We’re looking forward to embracing his fundraising ideas and tactics, and seeing how his skill set will provide value to our mission, especially in our current state of significant growth.”

Phoenix-based Arcadis gets new CIO

Arcadis announces the appointment of Justin Wright as chief information officer for its North and Latin America regions. Wright joined Arcadis in 2007 and brings 20 years of professional experience in the design, consulting, real estate, and aviation industries.

With two decades as a successful leader, Wright brings a wealth of expertise delivering innovative, technology-based solutions for companies and clients across multiple geographies and industry sectors. 

In his new role, Wright joins Arcadis’ global information technology (IT) leadership team to oversee regional IT operations while defining and implementing a progressive digital strategy for the firm and its clients.
