Our latest analysis aims to document the state of vocational education and labor market across some of the largest metropolitan areas in the United States, ranking the top 20 U.S. metros for vocational education and jobs based on their performances across several individual indicators.
Phoenix ranked 5th among the nation’s top metros for vocational education and jobs with a total of 45.1 out of a maximum total of 100 points.
- On the educational side, Phoenix stood out in terms of the number of postsecondary awards it has handed out between July 1st, 2021 to June 30th, 2022. With a total of 31,512 awards, the Arizona metro was only outranked by Los Angeles’ 43,419 total.
- The metro is home to 76 institutions granting postsecondary awards and non-credit workforce education which is the 2nd-highest total in the West.
- Phoenix accounts for the 10th-largest number of vocational jobs with 1.56 million such occupations.
- Phoenix places second regionally for its vocational job density with 68.2% of the metro’s jobs requiring vocational training.
- Beauty industry jobs are popular here, with Phoenix handing out more than 1,600 awards for in-training future aestheticians, ranking 4th on the list for this metric.
