The number of independent voters has continued to grow in the months since they passed Republicans as the largest voter bloc in Arizona.
The change continues a pattern that has been ongoing for years — a growing number of voters don’t want to be associated with either major political party.
Figures released by the Secretary of State’s Office Tuesday show the number of independents rose by more than 18,000 since March. At the same time the number of registered Democrats fell by more than 16,000 and Republican registration dropped by nearly 7,500.
Independents passed registered Republicans as the largest voter bloc for the first time in March.
There are 3.25 million registered voters in Arizona and 1.15 million aren’t registered as a member of a political party.
