Local First Arizona (LFA) is collaborating with fellow LFA members The Country Maiden and Papa Ed’s Ice Cream to host Glendale’s first ever Glendale cash mob. The Glendale cash mob is a fairly recent phenomenon, having grown from the desire to show support for small, independent businesses. The idea is simple: gather a large group of people to descend on a business in a short time span, and have each person spend $20 in cash at that business.

“It’s like a cash injection for a small, independent business,” says Kimber Lanning, Director of Local First Arizona. “Our goal is to bring the community together to support these great local businesses.”

Cheryl Kappes, owner of The Country Maiden, expressed enthusiasm for bringing the cash mob to Glendale: “I don’t think the average customer realizes how much difference a big group can make on a small business, spending just $20 each, especially during our long, hot summers.”

Linda Moran-Whittley, owner of Papa Ed’s Ice Cream, agreed, saying, “Honestly, having Local First Arizona sponsoring the first Cash Mob in downtown Glendale is simply amazing.”

Following the Glendale cash mob, an after party is being hosted by the Gaslight Inn’s Beer and Wine bar, just 1.5 blocks away. The address is 5745 W. Glendale Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301.

Local First Arizona is planning a series of cash mobs in preparation of their annual summer event, Independents Week (July 1-7, 2012). Independents Week is a week-long celebration of independent businesses across the state of Arizona, where consumers will be able to use the Golden Coupon at participating LFA member businesses to receive 20% off of purchases. Golden Coupons will be distributed to participants of the cash mob to use in the following week. Cash mobs are also being planned for Mesa and Tuscon, where Golden Coupons will be distributed as well.
