All across the state — and nation — there are questions surrounding the economy. Inflation is impacting the way we work and live. Housing costs have mad home ownership an unreachable dream for many, yet businesses are still struggling to attract and retain employees. But those companies may be able to learn something from the companies who have been voted as the Best Places to Work in Arizona.
The 100 Best Places to Live and Work in Arizona for 2023 earned the most support in voting for the 2023 edition of Ranking Arizona, the state’s biggest business opinion poll.
“Workplace culture has become such a important factor to the bottom line,” says Amy Fricke, human resources manager at LGE Design Build, one of the companies that earned a spot on the list of the 100 Best Places to Live and Work in Arizona for 2023. “We had the pandemic, which was a transition for everybody. So creating the right culture and bringing in the right people that fit that culture helps make the business grow and the business succeed.”
So, how can companies build that culture needed to grow and succeed?
“Our culture is very specific,” says Todd Steffen, president at CORE Construction Arizona, which was also named to the list of the 100 Best Places to Live and Work in Arizona. “It’s written down. We actually put it down on paper probably in 2010, even though we’re a company that’s more than 80 years old. We started identifying and defining it clearly so that we could teach it and explain it.”
Steffen says culture at CORE begins with the idea of team and trust.
“If there is no trust, it’s hard to get anything of value done,” he says. “So, where does trust begin? Trust begins with me earning the trust of the people that I work with inside of our four walls. And once you develop a team internally and earn the trust of each other, you start to earn the trust of your building partners and your clients.”
