Since 2006, The Singletons has provided hope to Arizona families by supporting the growing population of single parents who are battling cancer. The organization offers five distinct programs that aid in a variety of areas, from paying families’ outstanding bills to providing them with nutritious meals. Since its inception, The Singletons has made a positive difference in the lives of more than 300 single parents undergoing cancer treatment and more than a thousand children, sometime supporting more than 70 families in a single month.
The Singletons strives the meet the unique needs of each single parent facing a cancer diagnosis, by offering varying levels assistance that can range from one month to several years, depending on the family’s needs.
Programs include Bare Necessities, which provides families with household items like paper towels and laundry detergent that aren’t typically covered by government assistance programs, as well as Singletons Pockets which pays household bills such as mortgages or utilities. Participants can also utilize the Singleton Kitchen program, which provides nutritious meals prepared by volunteers to families in need.
For the children of these single parents facing a cancer diagnosis, The Singletons aims to boost family morale and encourage fun with its Singleton Kids program. This program includes quarterly family events, a crafting activity for children to participate in while parents collect supplies and a holiday program, Singleton Santas.
The final program, Seeds of Strength, is a self-run support group sponsored by Singleton Moms, which allows current and past Singleton parents to support each other with a monthly “Parent’s Night Out.”
Now, The Singletons is further expanding its impact with its Help Us Build (H.U.B.) Project, which will house Singletons offices and give families a safe place to connect with volunteers, counselors and other community members. The property will also serve as a venue for educational classes, small-scale fundraisers, a Singletons garden and a space designed for teens and children.
