A new study has revealed that Pinterest ranks No. 1 among the world’s top trending social media websites by increase in website traffic.

Web design company Digital Silk used data from Similarweb to analyze the change in website traffic from the largest websites worldwide between August and November 2023 to find which social media websites were trending the most.

1. pinterest.com

Pinterest tops the list of the top trending social media websites. The image-sharing platform saw the largest increase in traffic between August and November at 6.98%, going from 1.02 billion visits in August 2023 to 1.1 billion in November 2023.

2. reddit.com

Reddit is second among the top trending social media websites. The content aggregation and discussion website saw a 6.89% increase in traffic, going from 1.73 billion visits in August 2023 to 1.85 billion in November 2023.

3. messenger.com

Messenger ranks third, with a 6.78% increase in website traffic. Meta’s instant messaging service, originally known as Facebook Chat, saw website visits increase from 317.2 million visits in August 2023 to 340.3 million in November 2023.

4. snapchat.com

With a 5.12% increase in website traffic, Snapchat is fourth among the top trending social media platforms. Visits to the time-limited image and video-sharing service increased from 184.1 million to 194.1 million between August and November 2023.

5. telegram.org

In fifth is Telegram, with a 4.85% increase in website traffic, and visits increasing from 284.6 million to 299 million between August and November 2023. Telegram is an encrypted discussion and file-sharing service that allows for discussions within communities or messages to a wider audience with channels.

The social media websites with the largest decrease in traffic

1. tumblr.com

Tumblr saw the largest decrease in traffic, seeing a 22.29% decrease between August and November 2023. The microblogging website saw visits decrease from 234.1 million to 191.4 million from August to November.

2. discord.com

Discord is second among the social media websites with the largest decrease in traffic, seeing a 16.89% drop in traffic between August and November 2023. Visits decreased from 1.21 billion to 1.03 billion in this time. Discord is a communication service aimed mainly at gamers that provides voice and text chat and file-sharing functionality within communities (known as servers).

3. twitch.tv

Twitch ranks third with a 12.9% drop in traffic, with visits falling from 1.12 billion in August 2023 to 993.1 million in November 2023. Twitch is a video streaming service where people can chat in each stream’s chatroom. Its primary audience is gamers, with most streams being video game-related, though other content is also streamed.

4. twitter.com (now X.com)

With a 10.39% fall in traffic between August and November 2023, X.com (formerly Twitter) is fourth for the social media sites with the largest drop in traffic. Visits to the microblogging website fell from 6.58 billion visits in August to 5.97 billion in November.

5. deviantart.com

DeviantArt comes fifth, experiencing a 5.75% decrease in traffic between August and November 2023. Visits to the art-sharing platform dropped from 103.4 million to 97.8 million in this time.
