Phoenix travelers will have a new opportunity to go across the “pond” to London when British Airways adds three additional nonstop flights to London this summer from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
Tickets for the new flights are on sale now.
The flights will take off three days a week during May and June 2017, taking off at 2:35 p.m. and arriving in London at 12:25 p.m., allowing for better connection times to other countries across the world from London, according to the City of Phoenix.
The city reports about 120 people fly from Phoenix to London as their final destination everyday, with 80 of those passengers taking the British Airways nonstop flight. The rest of the flight’s passengers have connections to other cities across Europe, Africa and Asia.
“The current daily flight by British Airways adds $100 million to our economy each year, so this new flight is a welcome addition to that impact and another sign of the strength of our growing market,” said Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton.
Phoenix Councilwoman Thelda Williams has visited with British Airways many times, she says, to express the importance of the flights. She said the summer addition is a great step in the right direction.
Daily nonstop flights with British Airways from Phoenix to London began in 1996, arriving at about 5:30 p.m. after departing at 7:40 p.m.
