In the first episode of “Today in Arizona Accounting,” Wallace, Plese + Dreher Managing Partner Randy Brammer talks about how a career in accounting can bring both professional and personal satisfaction and fulfillment. Here are some highlights:
Best part of the job: “I’ve been with the firm for 18 years and no two days are alike. There’s never a dull moment. I feel like every day I’m still learning something new. Whether it’s a new law or regulation or a tax thing or a technology thing that will impact your clients, there’s always something new to learn. That keeps the job interesting.”
Company culture: “Even before COVID-19 or before it was the trendy thing to do, Wallace, Plese + Dreher has always been very flexible with scheduling. Even back when I was starting, it’s always been family first. So if your kid has a baseball game or dance recital or whatever it is, that’s never just been an issue. You have to be accountable for yourself and do what you say you’re going to do and communicate, but we don’t let work become a barrier to making sure that you can do the things in your life that are important to you. That’s attracted a lot of people to our firm.”
Career opportunities: “We’re looking for folks that are smart and having some background in accounting is nice. The work is getting very diverse in that no one’s lining up with green visors and running tape anymore. It’s all about being able to effectively utilize technology tools and software. So we are looking for people who enjoy helping businesses and business owners get where they want to go and people who enjoy working with a diverse team of people. We’re very collaborative in what we do and how we approach client service. If that excites you and you’re not afraid of an occasional deadline and want to make your mark and grow, then I think that we have a great spot for you.”
