Matthew Bennett has been named president and general manager of Cigna Medical Group (CMG), a multi-specialty group practice with 20 health care centers located throughout metropolitan Phoenix serving more than 100,000 customers.
In his role, Bennett is responsible for leading the strategy, execution and operations of the 120-physician multi-specialty group practice providing services to Cigna Medicare Advantage, Cigna commercial and Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) beneficiaries in Maricopa County.
“Matt is a dedicated leader with deep knowledge of Cigna Medical Group, the local health plans and the Arizona market,” said Alan M. Muney, M.D., M.H.A., executive vice president and chief medical officer for Cigna. “He will continue our long-standing commitment to providing quality and affordable care with a personalized experience, improving the health of our customers and communities we serve in the Phoenix area.”
Bennett has been with Cigna for nine years; most recently he served as the vice president of Operations and Effectiveness for Total Health & Network. He has also served in leadership roles within the information technology and service operations departments at Cigna. Prior to joining the organization, he consulted for private, non-profit and government organizations. He has lived and worked overseas in Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America. He is now based in Phoenix.
Bennett received his bachelor’s degree from Duke University where he studied Public Policy and Economics.
