DEEPER DIVE: 4 smart home trends to watch in 2023

Full slab backsplashes

Traditional mosaic and subway tile backsplashes will always be in style; however, many homeowners are installing large, full slab backsplashes in their place. A full slab backsplash is made from one continuous piece of material. Common materials for these backsplashes include granite, quartz, and marble. These pieces can be matched with you existing countertops or add in a new color for a splash of color. Full slab backsplashes aren’t just a focal point. They are quite functional because they are easy to clean and have no grout lines for grease and grime to build up.

New cabinet styles

Shaker style cabinets have been popular for many years. This year we are beginning to see people move away from this traditional style to more sleek and smooth designs. Flat door cabinets are becoming increasingly popular. These cabinets have a minimalistic look providing a modern design to any kitchen. Minimalist cabinets come in a variety of style and colors and can be easily configured with different hardware pieces to suit your taste.

Lighting

Lighting in the kitchen is often underestimated by homeowners. Lighting is extremely important not only for the decorative component but also for performing tasks. There are many lighting fixtures for you to choose from but understand other areas of the kitchen need lighting as well.

Hidden lighting is becoming more popular as it helps light up work areas and creates more workspace on the countertops. LED light strips can be attached underneath cabinetry to provide bright light to your workspace while remaining out of view. Many of these LED light strips also offer a variety of colors which can be fun when entertaining guests.

Another area where lighting is becoming popular is inside of glass cabinets. This helps make the area a focal point by highlighting that area. So, if you want to show off your crystal pieces or highlight your liquor collection this style of lighting will do just that.

Creating multipurpose areas

Many housing designs are creating one large living space with the kitchen, dining area, and living room being connected. Here in Arizona, where we have great weather for most of the year, outdoor spaces are being connected with the kitchen as well. Large windows and doors are a great way to open the kitchen to the outdoors. Pass through windows are another feature you can use to combine the outdoors with the inside. These installations are especially great for people who love to entertain and want everyone to be connected. Instead of their being people outside and inside, everyone can be together.

Install wallpaper

Wallpaper may be something you think about from the 1980s or 70s. That is no longer the case. Wallpaper is becoming an increasingly popular design aspect in kitchens. Modern wallpaper is easy to install and easy to clean. You no longer need to have a wallpaper specialists come in and take days to install it. Today’s wallpaper is often one continuous stick-on piece you can do yourself. It also provides a great focal point or splash of color for your space.

Create a butler’s pantry

Larger kitchens need a well-organized pantry. Butler’s pantries are perfect to suit these needs. These walk-in pantries serve as an extension of your kitchen providing you with extra storage and workspace. Often hidden behind doors matching your cabinets to keep the flow of the kitchen the butler pantry can hold all your necessities out of view of guests.

Butler pantries provide an area for food prep, and storage. A butler’s pantry allows you to also have a concealed space for cleanup, which can be especially important when having guests over. These small rooms are easily customizable to fit your needs whether it is prepping, storing or cleaning up. It is a great bonus for any kitchen.

2023 is a great year for new kitchen trends. If you are looking to remodel your entire kitchen or just update it there are many new options on the market to help you create your dream kitchen.
