Summer is heating up and it is now grilling season! When making the perfect burgers and hot dogs your grill needs to be ready for the task. Grill maintenance is the key to not only making sure your dinner tastes excellent, but also to maintain the longevity of your appliance.

Use household disinfectant and damp rags – which are better than any solution!

To clear away any cooking debris, including grease and ash, wash the inside of your grill lid with soapy water and a brush. Make sure to thoroughly rinse away the mess afterwards.

To clean the exterior of the grill, you can use a household disinfectant and a rag.

Use vegetable oil or olive oil to deep clean your grill

Your cooking grate holds the memory of past grilling adventures with crusty, charred meat and grease. For a deeper clean, use a scraper first before you soak, brush and rinse the grate. As a bonus tip, applying vegetable or olive oil to the grates before and after every grilling session prevents rusting and keeps food from sticking.

Preheat your grill to 500 degrees to remove leftover muck

For an easy cleanup, preheat the grill to 500 degrees. This will char any leftover debris to ash before putting your brush to work and scrape it away, helping to minimize what you scrape off!

Ketchup can help remove rust!

When your grill is off, pour some ketchup onto the parts of your grill that are rusting and let it sit. A few minutes later, scrub the surface with a towel. The ketchup helps remove rust and reduce the damage.

With these simple steps, you will have no problem cooking a delicious, savory meal for your backyard barbeque party.
