Today, Mii amo, Sedona’s award-winning destination spa, has reopened, debuting a $40 million renovation and expansion after a two-year closure. Nestled at the base of Boynton Canyon amongst its striking natural landscape and towering red rocks, Mii amo has spent more than 20 years as a pioneer in the spa industry, inspiring guests to Journey within through its inspired setting, amenities, spa sessions and services, while also providing programming and activities that allow guests to fully immerse in the outdoors and connect with nature.

“At Mii amo, everything we do is enveloped in the beauty and power of the place,” says Tracy Tang, co-owner of Mii amo. “We look forward to welcoming guests back to Mii amo to experience our expanded vision and our new and enhanced spaces.”

The Journey

Since opening in 2001, Mii amo has used the term Journey in reference to the Mii amo guest experience that takes place at the destination spa for either three, four, seven and now 10 nights. Journeys are inclusive of accommodations, food and beverage, daily treatments, access to all facilities and more than 50 weekly activities such as hikes, fitness classes, lectures and workshops.

“We know that each Journey is as unique as the individual that embarks upon it,” says Stan Kantowski, managing director for Enchantment Resort & Mii amo. “Our intention is to serve as co-creators of each guest’s Journey. We are committed to offering personalized support for all individuals as they uncover their way, not ‘the’ way. We utilize our expertise to cultivate trusting, lasting relationships with each guest, working side-by-side to craft a Journey with them rather than leading them down a predetermined path.”

Guests of neighboring Enchantment Resort can enjoy the privilege of access to certain Mii amo spaces, amenities and spa services based upon availability and with advanced reservations. As part of the renovation, an additional 3,700 square feet of space has been dedicated exclusively to Mii amo’s Journey guests to elevate the level of privacy for guests at the destination spa, while still creating areas that spark connection and  build community. These include a private relaxation lounge, the Journey plunge pool and garden, and Journey lounge, with views of the iconic Kachina Woman rock formation that stands at the entrance to the Canyon. The Journey Lounge serves as a place for Journey guests to reflect, relax, read and listen — with a fireplace, lounge chairs, library and space for lectures and presentations. Journey guests also have a private concierge space with dedicated onsite Journey Guides.

Design

Mii amo’s architecture fosters a refined yet nurturing space that inspires inward exploration and connects guests to the Canyon. Designed to be experiential and heighten the overall sense of place, Mii amo thoughtfully composes its gathering spaces with rooms that open up to the natural landscape, complemented by earth-colored concrete, wood, adobe brick and stucco. Mii amo’s original architect, Gluckman Tang, was engaged to expand and enhance their original design.

The Crystal Grotto, one of the most beloved spaces of the original Mii amo, remains an ideal site for daily meditation, ritual and reflection. The circular space, with its earthen floor and domed ceiling, centers around a pedestal of petrified wood featuring a gentle fountain and an illuminated quartz crystal. Lit by an aperture overhead, it is designed so that once a year, on the summer solstice, a beam of sunlight strikes the crystal, connecting earth and sky.

Outdoor features at Mii amo now include a labyrinth, a hammock grove and yoga lawn, all with views of the surrounding red rock walls and formations. The Mii amo pool, refreshed with a new pool deck and furnishings, offers spectacular views of Boynton Canyon. In the Living Room, a new sunken seating lounge allows guests to relax and connect to the earth, while private niches line the perimeter of the room and offer connection to the sky and sun, plus a wood-burning fireplace adds warmth to the room.

Casitas

In addition to a full renovation of Mii amo’s existing 16 Casita guest rooms and suites, three new Casita buildings have been added offering seven new accommodations, for a total of 23 rooms. All accommodations include fireplaces, private outdoor spaces, and heated bathroom floors and are arranged within a quiet courtyard compound. The new suites include their own private courtyards with fireplaces, outdoor seating, and most offer soaking tubs with views of Boynton Canyon.

Spa & Wellbeing

The reopening sets the stage for an even more powerful Mii amo experience with an elevated menu of truly unique spa services. From traditional massages, facials and body work to energy clearing, hypnosis, sound resonance therapy, celestial manifesting and everything in between. Mii amo’s spa facilities now include 26 treatment rooms and private consultation spaces: 14 single massage rooms, three facial rooms, two wet rooms, one sound lounge room and one couple’s massage room, plus an all-new consultation wing—with a dedicated relaxation space and five consultation rooms for sessions with Mii amo’s mindfulness team and seasoned therapists. Spa treatments will now be 75-, 100- or 125-minute sessions.

Whole Body Fitness

New fitness and movement studios with expanded programs present physical fitness as an integral part of wellbeing and health. Looking out onto the Sensory Garden, the 3,300-square-foot fitness and movement studios provide ample space for both private and group instruction. Fitness leaders will guide guests through a series of classes and programs, serving as liaisons to the adjacent Trail House at Enchantment Resort. Trail House offers hike-in/hike-out, bike-in/bike-out and now rock climbing experiences under the guidance of expert guides and naturalists, providing an opportunity for guests to create deeper connections to the Canyon and surroundings, through a 400-mile-trail network.

Hummingbird

Hummingbird at Mii amo, the new signature restaurant, showcases an eclectic culinary program focused on wellness, created in tandem with celebrity chef and James Beard finalist Seamus Mullin. Designed to be an airy, light-filled space by day and a tranquil, candlelit space by night, the restaurant will source seasonal produce from its own Chef’s Garden as well as from nearby farms, ranches and orchards. The fully redesigned juice bar will provide refreshing and nutritious beverages by day, and full bar and wine service in the evenings. Hummingbird will be led by Executive Chef Beau Widener.

Shopping

The reimagined Mii amo Boutique will support the guests’ wellbeing journey at Mii amo and at home, highlighting both coveted and emerging designers – from men and women’s apparel and athleisure, to gifts and home goods. Featured skincare products will be by BABOR, a leader in professional skincare across Europe. BABOR became 100 percent Climate Neutral Certified in 2020, further elevating the brand’s sustainability focus and aligning with Mii amo’s emphasis on connection with the natural environment.
