Last week was Arizona Bike Week, the celebration of all things motorcycle and good music as folks from around the Valley and the country showed off their nicest bikes, and rode around town.

Photographer and Art Director Mike Mertes was there last weekend, taking photos and looking at the awesome motorcycles. These photos were taken on Friday at bike week, and are of the Harley Davidson of Scottsdale Drill Team and FMX Freestyle Motocross Extreme Stunt Show, Mertes said.

He was also able to see Social Distortion, and Reverend Horton Heat.

What started as a small gathering of motorcycle enthusiasts two decades ago has grown into one of the biggest rallies in the country. The April 6 through 10 event celebrated its twentieth anniversary at WestWorld in Scottsdale.

This year, there were double-header concerts at the on-site concert venue the RockYard and the lineup was pretty impressive:

  • Wednesday, April 6, Blackberry Smoke and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
  • Thursday, April 7, Warrant and Blues Traveler
  • Friday, April 8, Reverend Horton Heat and Social Distortion.
  • Saturday, April 9, Ratt and Buckcherry

There are daily charity rides during ABW which benefit a variety of causes. Riders who participate in these will all receive an admission pass, so they can enjoy the day’s events at WestWorld at the end of the ride.
