Mickey Avalon @ Crescent Ballroom
Raised by a heroin-addicted father and drug-dealing mother, Mickey Avalon turned his life struggles into hip-hop singles. Avalon lost his father at a young age from a drunk-driving accident and his sister from a heroin overdose. In his early 20s, he was divorced with a daughter and was falling victim to the ways of his parents as he lived in poverty. At rock bottom, Avalon knew he wanted a more fulfilling life and moved to Los Angeles. Ex-MTV VJ, Simon Rex, acted as a mentor to Avalon and collaborated on some of his own tracks. Avalon’s tapes were passed out to numerous Los Angeles nightclubs by his friend Dirt Nasty. His raw talent and honest lyrics appealed to a large audience and clubs sold out across California for his live show. Interscope Records immediately signed him and a self-titled album hit the stands. “Jane Fonda,” “Mr.Right,” and “My Dick” became favorites among his fans and spread quickly through the internet. Recently, Avalon has released a new album, titled “Loaded,” revealing his dark times on the streets in Hollywood and trapped in his own destructive self. Avalon sings from experience and sincerity that makes rock-n-roll come to life.
