Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch
The Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch in Gilbert offers a 110-acre urban oasis with seven ponds, diverse vegetation, and over 4.5 miles of trails. Visitors can fish, enjoy the Gilbert Rotary Centennial Observatory for stargazing, or relax in the shade of a palo verde on a hot day. The preserve is renowned in the birding community for the large number of avian species that can be spotted.

Ramsey Canyon Preserve
Sierra Vista, known as the “hummingbird capital of the United States,” attracts over a dozen species of hummingbirds to the Ramsey Canyon Preserve, where desert and mountain ecosystems meet. Additionally, nearby is the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area, which hosts 100 species of breeding birds and 250 species of migrants, making it a prime birdwatching destination in the region.

Glen Canyon National Recreation Area
Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, spanning from northern Arizona into Utah, is a sanctuary for the endangered California Condor, known for its 10-foot wingspan. Visitors can spot these majestic birds soaring over the Colorado River, along with other species like the Mexican Spotted Owl, Peregrine Falcon, and Southwestern Willow Flycatcher. The Navajo Bridge and Vermilion Cliffs offer prime condor-watching locations.

Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve
The Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve, located near Patagonia, is a top birding destination, especially during nesting season. Other notable species include the Violet-crowned Hummingbird, Gray Hawk, and Vermilion Flycatcher, making it a must-visit for bird enthusiasts.
