So you’re flipping through the latest issue of Scottsdale Living, and you think to yourself, 1) “I love these clothes and accessories!” and 2) “Who are these models?” Well, our newest series titled Meet the Models — which we hope to fit into future issues of the magazine — answers that second question for you, spotlighting each and every model featured in Scottsdale Living — so you can get to know them better.

First up on Meet the Models, Sharen Jade, who you can spot sporting a fantastically retro, magenta-striped, two-piece swimsuit in the Style section of the Spring 2012 issue.

How did you start modeling?

I started modeling about a year after I moved to Arizona. I have six sisters and two brothers, all of whom have modeled around the world. I was the only one who had not but always wanted to. I started meeting a lot of contacts and networking, and before I knew it I began doing paid shoots! I made the cover of a local MMA calender and decided to continue on and have been doing well as a self-employed, independent model ever since!

What type of modeling do you like the most and why?

I love all types of modeling, but if I had to, I’ll pick three ― because I can’t say just one. First, I’d say abstract/artistic modeling that takes skill and composure to the next level. Second, glamour/fashion; I love showing my personality and uniqueness while advertising the product given. Lastly, I’d say lingerie/underwear modeling. I know I would love, and do very well at, something more mainstream like Victoria’s Secret ― best example I can think of.

What is your favorite shoot you’ve done and why?

My favorite shoot? That’s a hard one. I always have fun at shoots! I have had maybe one or two semi-bad experiences, but I usually make the most out of everything and just enjoy my work while making art.

Do you have an all-time favorite modeling photo?

Meet the Models: Sharen JadeThat’s a hard one; I’ve worked with so many talented photographers! Most say this is their favorite head shot of mine.

What advice would you give to someone interested in modeling?

I recruit girls here and there when I find talent and/or unique looks. The advice I find myself giving quite often is ― simply put ― know why you want to be a model. If you’re coming into this for the money or for the attention, you may go far if you’re willing to do certain things to get there. But, in my short experience as a model, I feel that using your skills, talent, professionalism and personality, are way more marketable than selling your soul. It’s too easy to get “ahead” in this world by giving up any and all morals. However, I feel like that can only take you so far. The love of the art of photography and the joy I get from helping create it somehow shows in my work. I am told time and time again that my professionalism and love for the industry shines through my work and makes photographers want to work with me again! Remember your morals, and have some self-respect. But only if you want to be respected in return.
