Wellness infusions are a booming business. But as popular as IV infusion therapy has become, some people can be wary of its true benefits or effectiveness. To help ease the concerns of potential patients, dispel common misconceptions and illustrate the positive outcomes of IV infusions, Jim May, FNP, and founder of Alpha Infusions is happy to share his knowledge, expertise and passion when it comes to helping others heal and improve their overall health and wellness.

Prior to launching Sedona-based Alpha Infusions, and becoming a family nurse practitioner (FNP), May’s initial career was in construction.

“I was a heating and air conditioning contractor, and then when 2008 hit, everything stopped,” May says, “and I had a pretty tough decision to make — should I go back to school or not? So I went to nursing school and became an emergency room (ER) nurse.”

After May’s career shift to the medical field, he later became inspired to pursue a career as an FNP. But it was truly his time and experience in the ER that led him to launch an IV wellness infusion business.

“As ER nurses, we could start IVs in our sleep,” May says, “And I was into the IV movement pretty early on — I just didn’t start a business…(yet).”

Ultimately, May knew he could provide a high standard of care, using the skills he’d acquired from his days in the ER as well as those obtained as a FNP. With Alpha Infusions now open and thriving, May has on-boarded other skilled nurses from his past ER days to help provide a full suite of pre-tailored infusions.

IV Therapy at a glance

Alpha Infusions IV therapy — intravenous nutritional therapy — vitamin drips are designed to deliver powerful doses of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and other vital nutrients directly into the bloodstream for quick and safe 100% absorption.

As for those who may be fearful of negative reactions or repercussions from IV nutritional therapy, May says, “What’s nice about being in medicine and emergency medicine for so long, is we’re extremely knowledgeable, prepared and alert to an array of health conditions and issues. My nurses that work for me are all long-time friends and very astute.”

May also adds that Alpha’s patients have never experienced bad reactions or adverse effects from IV therapy.

For new patients who may want to dip their toes into the infusion world, May suggests opting for the “Meyers’ Cocktail.” This infusion contains Alpha Infusion’s blend of several vitamins: Vitamin B complex, B 12, Vitamin C, glutathione, zinc, magnesium and an electrolyte blend.

“It’s the best hydration bag that we have,” May says.

The Meyer’s IV infusion, is simply one of multiple options Alpha Infusion provides, including other infusion blends targeted for stress support, migraine relief, anti-aging, immune support and many more.

Specialty IVs

Alpha infusions also offers special IV therapies for people who have undergone chemotherapy — to help strengthen their immune systems and for those recovering from substance use.

“My passion in my heart is drug rehab and detoxification,” May says. And it’s something he looks forward to continuing to pursue and develop.
