Gino’s East of Chicago announces award-winning chef Eddie Matney has joined the restaurant as an advisor and the debut of the DeepAF pizza on National Pizza Day this Friday, February 9.

Matney will join the Gino’s East management team as a consultant where he will play an integral role in preparing dishes and training team members as Gino’s East introduces the new DeepAF pizza. Matney is a well-respected figure in the local culinary community. He was named the “Number One Chef in the Valley” for five consecutive years by Phoenix Magazine and is revered as one of the Valley’s top innovators and expert chefs. His work has been praised in several industry publications, including Food & Wine, USA Today, Bon Appétit, Food Arts and Nation’s Restaurant News and Money.

In addition to adding Matney to its team, the restaurant will introduce the DeepAF pizza, which debuted last year in Chicago to rave reviews and features 33 percent more dough, 75 percent more cheese and double the toppings. Gino’s East has perfected the craft of making deep dish pizza, starting with their signature, secret-recipe dough and then topping it with mounds of mozzarella cheese, fresh toppings and tangy tomato sauce. Their pies are slowly baked in seasoned cast iron pans until the crust is golden and flaky, then serve it table-side, piping hot, right out of the pan.

“We’re thrilled to welcome legendary local chef Eddie Matney to the Gino’s East family,” said Dalton Derenne, general manager of the Gino’s East Arizona location. “Eddie is a beloved icon in the local foodie community and we are honored to have the opportunity to work with him as we launch the deepest deep dish pizza of them all, the DeepAF pizza.”

The Chicago-based restaurant is located at 3626 E. Indian School Road in Arcadia.
