Glencroft Center for Modern Aging, the largest senior living campus in Arizona located in Glendale, has been recognized for its innovative active aging program ZoeLife by the senior advocacy nonprofit AZ LeadingAge.
Glencroft was awarded AZ LeadingAge’s Best Practices Award at the nonprofits annual fall membership meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 19. AZ LeadingAge’s mission is to provide housing, health and community-based services for seniors.
Part of a national association, AZ LeadingAge serves members by providing leadership, education and advocacy in the senior living community. More than 6,000 nonprofit organizations are a part of the LeadingAge network supporting healthy and proactive aging among senior populations.

Glencroft and its innovative ZoeLife program was started in 2019 with the goal to create healthy aging based on a culture of holistic practices of well-being merging the mind, body and spirit into proactive aging programs and health. “Zoe” is a biblical word with a Greek origin meaning “life and vitality.”
“We provide residents a lifestyle of ongoing opportunities and activities that promote healthy aging,” said Steve Heller, who developed ZoeLife with Glencroft senior leadership. “ZoeLife is a part of our culture and is offered at no cost for our residents. We incorporate exercise, nutrition, spiritual health and intellectual education into the lives of our residents and they love it — and it’s good for them. We are resetting expectations of how people age. It’s really wonderful.”
The Glencroft AZ LeadingAge Award was originally awarded in 2020, but due to COVID and safety measures the recognition was postponed until this October. Its association members include senior housing communities, elderly service providers and nursing homes.
