Despite the challenges of COVID-19 since March of this year, Macayo’s, a valley institution since 1946, has expanded in 2020 to include two new locations — one at 650 North Scottsdale Road in Tempe, and the other at 6538 East Superstition Springs Boulevard in Mesa, bringing their beloved time-honored recipes and signature guest service to even more East Valley diners.

“A trip to Macayo’s conjures up a lot of nostalgia for a lot of people, and it continues to do so at our new locations in Superstition Springs and Tempe,” says Nava Singam, owner of Kind Hospitality which assumed control of Macayo’s Mexican Restaurants last year. “The Macayo’s legacy in the Valley and beyond is something we take very seriously. The food, the atmosphere and the organization’s involvement in the community have been unparalleled, and we absolutely intend to keep those traditions going. Our vision for the brand is founded on respect for the history and bringing the heritage into today’s environment.”

Kind Hospitality has worked hard to ensure that everything locals have come to know and love about the restaurant concept remains intact, including the heart of Macayo’s, it’s people. Meanwhile, the group has dedicated its efforts to elevate the brand with renovations and improvements such as upgraded flooring, fresh paint and new lighting fixtures, and an even further emphasis on an unmatched guest experience through engaging guest service. Singam notes that diners can count on everything they remembered about Macayo’s as a kid blended with everything they love in an environment as an adult.

Macayo’s quickly responded to the challenges the pandemic presented to the restaurant industry in particular. To ensure its loyal guests could still get the nourishment and favorite meals they love, the company implemented two new convenient and safe ways for guests to enjoy Macayo’s cuisine — through online ordering and delivery — and still forged ahead to develop its two new locations. Opened in the spring, the Superstition Springs location features a more intimately vibrant look and both new locations feature smaller footprints than past locations, coming in at 4,000 to 5,000 square feet versus 7,000 to 8,000 square feet.
