August 10th is National S’mores Day! Many of us may want to celebrate this delicious holiday without having to build an entire campfire in our backyards! There are innovative ways that you can craft your personal favorite type of s’more with a common at-home appliance: your grill.

Here are some tips on how to “grill a s’more” in your backyard!

Go beyond roasting marshmallows and heat up each ingredient!

Traditionally, when making a s’more, the focus is on heating up the marshmallow with a stick/skewer, but having a grill allows you to make each ingredient nice and toasty! Here are four simple steps to follow to grill your s’more:

Step one: Put chocolate on one side of a graham cracker and place the delicious duo on the grill with a spatula. Wait until the chocolate begins to melt and take the graham cracker and chocolate off the cooking grate with a spatula and put them on a plate.

Step two: Heat the other graham cracker until it starts to crisp on one side. Then, flip the graham cracker and grill it until the other side becomes crispy. Remove the graham cracker from the grill with a spatula and onto your plate.

Step three: Roast the marshmallow the traditional way with a metal skewer. Make sure that you keep the marshmallow close to the cooking grate, so the heat from the fire can cook it. Once you have grilled the marshmallow to your liking, pull it away from the heat and onto the graham cracker with chocolate.

Step four: Assemble your s’more and enjoy!

Set your grill to the optimal heat setting when grilling your s’mores.

When cooking s’mores, keep your grill on a medium heat. If it’s too low, those in your family who love a crispy s’more won’t be able to grill their marshmallow to perfection! Also, higher heats are meant to grill raw meat, and unnecessary for putting together a dainty s’more.

Make sure your kids are staying safe while creating these toasty treats.

Kids can absolutely be a part of the s’more grilling experience! However, depending on their age, you might assign them different tasks. For young kids, they can help by prepping each element of the s’more—such as breaking up the chocolates and graham crackers! For slightly older kids, they can cook their own s’mores, while keeping a safe distance from the grill (you might need an extra-long skewer, so they can maintain a great enough distance away from the fire). Teens and young adults can help with every step of the process! Make sure you demonstrate how to properly execute each step and stand by to help them if needed.

And there you go! A s’more grilled to perfection in the comfort of your backyard! If you are looking for a new grill to create fun recipes, check out the selection at Arizona-based Spencer’s TV & Appliance to find a grill that meets your needs.
