While Carlson Creek Vineyard has been planting Grenache since 2010, it has always gone towards their flag-ship wine Rule of Three, which is a Grenache Syrah Mouvedre (GSM) blend.
For the first time ever, the Arizona vineyard’s Grenache grapes yielded more than expected, allowing them to create a 100 percent Grenache.
“Having a Grenache was something that we’d always liked to do but with the Rule of Three being one of our highest selling wines, there was no question where the Grenache grapes were going,” said co-owner Robert Carlson III. “With a higher yield on those grapes during the 2013 harvest it was fun for us to let the Grenache stand on its own.”
The family-owned vineyard will be releasing the Grenache at their Willcox tasting room on Easter weekend (March 25-26; closed March 27 for the holiday), where they’ll be offering complimentary tastings.
For those who can’t wait, the Grenache is available now on CarlsonCreek.com.
