The gooey deliciousness that is Gadzooks Enchildas & Soup will soon be available to Arcadia residents as the owner announces the opening of a new location slated to open in late 2016 or early 2017.

The new spot will be near 40th Street and Camelback Road at 4031 E. Camelback Rd., right along the canal. Owner Aaron Pool loves the location near the canal, and hopes to set a development precedent.

“We found the site two years ago, loved the location right on Camelback and knew it had never been developed, so it was almost too good to be true,” Pool said.

It wasn’t an easy move developing at the site, because of needing to maintain SRP’s right-of-way access to the area, and the Federal Government’s obligation to maintain the canal’s operation.

Pool and his brother and business partner Jared Pool worked hard with the City of Phoenix to get the space up to par. There was a lot of red-tape around the project, but eventually Pool was able to get the 2,100-square-foot restaurant space approved.

“We really wanted Gazdooks’ new location to be welcoming to the canal,” Pool says. “It’s ironic because while I was a student at ASU, I took a design class taught by a professor who was obsessed with the canals and wanted to develop the canals as an alternative focus from the traditional street grid. I never thought I’d get the opportunity and now I share that passion for beautifying the canal.”

With the new Gadzooks Enchiladas & Soup location will create a “canal-centric” model for the Arcadia area and beyond.

Pool hopes to create several more locations besides the upcoming Arcadia location in the future. The original location is near 7th Street and Osborn Road.
