Most trees tend to live a whole lot longer than humans do. In fact, it’s not uncommon at all for trees to live for hundreds and, in some cases, even thousands of years.
But at some point in time, all trees are going to die. And when they do, they can pose a threat to everything that surrounds them if you’re not careful.
You should look out for the signs a tree is dying and do tree removal as soon as possible if you ever spot a tree that’s on its way out on your property. Here are a few of the signs of a dead tree.
Lack of Bark
If you’re trying to figure out if a tree is dying, one of the first things you’re going to want to do is look at the bark on its trunk. If the bark is missing in some spots or, worse, missing altogether, this is not going to be a good sign for the tree.
When you have a dead tree on your hands, it’s usually going to be missing some or all of its bark. This is one of the signs a tree is dying that you’re not going to be able to miss.
Obvious Cracks
While you’re inspecting the bark on a tree that appears to be dying, you should also evaluate the condition of the tree’s trunk to see if you can spot any cracks in it. As a tree dies, it’ll often get very dry and start to form cracks in its trunk.
It won’t be long before a few minor cracks turn into a few major cracks. These cracks could cause parts of a tree’s trunk to splinter, and it could eventually lead to a whole tree falling over.
If you see any cracks starting to show up in a tree’s trunk, it’s a good indication that you’re going to need to schedule tree removal sooner rather than later.
Very Few Healthy Leaves
It’s obviously not out of the ordinary to see a tree without any healthy leaves on it in the dead of winter. You shouldn’t be too concerned if you find that a tree doesn’t have any leaves on it during this time.
But if you’ve noticed that a tree doesn’t ever seem to have healthy leaves on it, that’s often going to be a cause for concern. It’s going to show you that you’ll likely need to have it removed in the near future.
Don’t Ignore the Signs a Tree Is Dying
It’s typically not that hard to tell when a tree is dying. You’ll spot a bunch of signs a tree is dying when you look up at it.
You should get into the habit of keeping a close eye on the trees on your property so that you can pick up on any signs of trouble. It’ll prevent a dead tree from doing any damage to your home, your vehicles, or anything else that you might have on your property.
