Although there are several smartphone manufacturers, most people choose Apple or Samsung. And while Apple seems to have a slightly larger market share than Samsung, Galaxy fans are just as die-hard as Apple fans. If you’ve ever wondered why people prefer Samsung Galaxy phones over Apple, here’s why.
1. Personal preference
Which brand people prefer is usually a matter of personal preference. People who choose Samsung Galaxy devices over Apple iPhones tend to prefer the user experience, including the aesthetics and the transitions between apps and windows.
Although user experience plays a role, having a personal preference for a particular device and operating system has roots in familiarity. The more you use a given device, the more likely you are to form a preference. These preferences also apply to the accessories people get for their phones, like kickstands, thumb rings, and even cases. It would be hard to switch brands if you had to give up these familiar accessories.
Thankfully, you can usually get the same accessories for both iPhone and Galaxy devices, which makes it easier for anyone transitioning between brands. For example, say someone receives a new iPhone as a gift, but they really want a Galaxy S25. They can sell the iPhone, buy the S5, and get the same type of case as long as the manufacturer makes cases for both brands. It’s hard to believe anyone wouldn’t keep an iPhone gifted to them, but die-hard Galaxy fans are loyal.
2. Samsung phones are more affordable
There’s no denying that the average price of a smartphone has basically doubled since they were first introduced. Although Samsung Galaxy devices can cost $1,000 or more just like iPhones, there are affordable options that don’t force you to sacrifice performance. For example, you can get the base model iPhone for a lower price, but you sacrifice far more features and specs compared to low-end Galaxy devices.
Samsung offers more than just the three main models they release with their Galaxy lineups every year. The company also offers basic Galaxy devices, but they’re slightly different and don’t have as many features. However, they’re still great phones and are good enough for a lot of people. For example, the Galaxy A15 and A05 are both affordable – the former is typically priced at under $200 and the latter costs around $100.
While most Galaxy fans would probably prefer a high-end phone, the entry-level models offer the same user experience at a fraction of the cost. This makes it easier to replace a broken or lost phone for people who are on a budget.
3. Samsung has an ecosystem, too
Many people talk about preferring the iPhone because of the Apple ecosystem, but Samsung has an ecosystem, too. There is a Galaxy ecosystem that works to create a seamless experience across a variety of Samsung products. You can switch devices in the middle of a task and pick up where you left off, make use of the single sign-on feature, use your phone to log into various websites on your laptop, control your devices remotely, use devices as a second monitor, and so much more.
For some, they prefer the Galaxy ecosystem because it offers unique features and more customization options, all for a much lower price.
People who don’t use Apple products aren’t actually missing out where the ecosystem concept is concerned. Plus, many people don’t actually use the ecosystem and it’s not a factor that contributes to their preference.
4. Galaxy has AI features
Some people love Galaxy phones but are drawn to the iPhone for its AI features. However, Samsung has been building AI features into their mobile devices for a while. Just like the iPhone, Galaxy devices come with AI-powered tools to enhance productivity, streamline communication, and simplify online interactions.
For example, Live Translate offers real-time translation for verbal conversations, and Transcript Assist will create transcripts of meetings and discussions, and then provide concise summaries. There’s also an AI feature built into the text messaging system that makes professional and thoughtful response suggestions.
Samsung Galaxy fans know exactly what they want
It’s hard to say, but the slight discrepancy between Apple and Samsung’s market share could just be because Apple is more expensive. It seems nobody is missing out on features; both companies offer similar products with comparable features.
However, Galaxy fans get everything they want and need in a smartphone at a fraction of the cost.
