Orthopedic Institute of the West, a new medical group practice focusing on joint replacement and sports medicine, is now open in North Scottsdale. Led by accomplished surgeons who have served Valley patients for more than 40 years, the practice specializes in total joint reconstruction, revisions and knee arthroscopy.
Physicians include Jimmy Chow, MD, Brandon Gough, MD, Anthony Hedley, MD, FRCS and Timothy Bert, MD, are members of the hospital medical staff at nearby Abrazo Scottsdale Campus. Key services offered include:

Jimmy Chow, MD, is a board certified hip and knee specialist with dual-fellowship training in adult total joint reconstruction and arthroscopic sports surgery. One of Arizona’s first robotic knee replacement surgeons, Dr. Chow has also helped launch multiple technologies in total knee replacement, including computer prenavigation, or “patient-matched,” technologies, as well as knee replacement designs.
Brandon Gough, MD, is a board certified, fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in hip and knee replacement surgery. He also trains other surgeons from around the United States and world on the latest techniques in minimally invasive hip and knee replacement, including robotic-assisted hip and knee replacement surgeries.
Anthony Hedley, MD, FRCS, is an internationally recognized orthopedic surgeon, author, researcher and educator, specializing in joint reconstruction and replacement as well as arthritis. Holding several patents, Dr. Hedley has been involved in the design and development of hip and knee implants for more than 25 years. He is the principal investigator in several joint replacement research projects studies and has received numerous awards and honors, including the Hip Society’s Otto Aufranc and John Charnley awards for outstanding contributions to reconstructive hip surgery.
Tim Bert, MD, is a board certified sports medicine orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip arthroscopy, fellowship trained in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, elbow, hip and knee at the renowned Kerlan Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles. Dr. Bert has served as an assistant team physician for Phoenix Suns and Mercury, the Los Angeles Lakers, Sparks, Kings, Dodgers, and Anaheim Ducks, and provided coverage for the Summer X Games. His community involvement has included being team physician for the Sereno Soccer Club of Arizona, Arizona Scorpions Football Team, Arizona Interscholastic Cycling League, ASU Wakedevils wakeboarding team and the Grand Canyon Professional Rodeo Association.
