AWA's Fall 2012 Membership Exhibition To Showcase The Best Of Watercolor Art

Art aficionados, mark your calendars for the Arizona Watercolor Association’s Fall 2012 Membership Exhibition where you’ll have the chance to view 60 paintings in a one-of-a-kind showroom in Scottsdale, the Home & Design Idea Center (HDIC).

The Fall 2012 Membership Exhibition opens on Monday, October 1 and will be available to view through October 26.

“Eighty-six AWA artists submitted 212 amazing paintings,” says Jeremy Jones, AWA president, “so it was quite a job for our juror to just select 60 for this show and its prestigious setting.”

The Juror for the exhibition is Carl Purcell, who once taught painting and drawing at Snow College in Utah for 30 years, and now paints on his free time and teaches workshops. The author of “Painting with your Artist’s Brain” and featured in The Artists Magazine and Splash 1 publications, Purcell is also a signature member of the National Watercolor Society (NWS) and helped jury its 2009 National Show.

Having spent many hours closely inspecting each submitted image, Purcell says that the Fall 2012 Membership Exhibition will have a lot of diversity. “The AWA can be proud of the quality of art being produced by its members,” Purcell adds.

Many of the artists featured at the Fall 2012 Membership Exhibition are also teachers who hold regular workshops. And on Thursday, October 18 from 5:30-7 p.m., a reception will be held at HDIC to offer attendees the opportunity to meet said artists. Sponsored by Arizona Art Supply, the reception will precede the AWA Artist Awards Ceremony, which will be held from 7-7:30 p.m. Both events will be held at HDIC, which boasts more than 40,000 square feet of showroom space, housing a collection of more than 200 companies offering home-related products and services.

Founded in 1960 by professional watercolor artists and instructors, the AWA hosts a National Watercolor Exhibition and two Membership Exhibitions, all juried by nationally acclaimed artists. With more than 300 members representing 16 states and more than 62 communities, the AWA is also a member of the Arizona Art Alliance.
