It’s that time of year again. As most Mardi Gras celebrations come to a close, The Epilepsy Foundation of Arizona gears up to hold their annual Mardi Gras Gala on February 23.
This year’s event is “Gatsby” themed, mirroring the vintage feel of Carnival in the twenties. Street performers, Cajun cuisine and the promise for an unforgettable night are luring the community to the event.
The Epilepsy Foundation of Arizona is a non-profit organization with a mission to inform the 65,000 people in Arizona who suffer from Epilepsy, lead the fight to stop seizures, find a cure and overcome challenges created by Epilepsy.
Affecting one in every 100 people, Epilepsy is the third most common neurological disorder in the world.
President and CEO of the Epilepsy Foundation of Arizona, says it’s not about finding a cure for seizures as there are 20 different types, “but it’s about improving the quality of life” of those who suffer from this disorder.
The Mardi Gras Gala does just that. All proceeds earned during the event go to help children with Epilepsy attend Camp Candlelight. This camp helps children with Epilepsy accept their disorder by being around others their age and sharing similar stories and experiences of their own.
The highlight of the event is the crowning of the “Mari Gras King or Queen.” This person is crowned for showing philanthropic and active involvement in the Epilepsy Community, along with getting the word out about the disorder and how people can get involved.
The Mardi Gras Gala is a highly anticipated event which bonds the community in the support of a great cause.
