The MORE Foundation (Musculoskeletal Orthopedic Research and Education), a nonprofit organization that envisions a world full of active people, launched its 2015 Education Series which is open to Phoenix area orthopedic surgeons, residents, fellows and physical and occupational therapists across the Valley. April educational opportunities included a Dual Visiting Professorship session on April 10 and 11 and a foot and ankle cadaver lab on April 18. The first event of the year was a Dual Visiting Professorship program on January 9 and 10, 2015 and was sponsored by the MORE Foundation, The CORE Institute, Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, Trimed, Extremity Medical, Stryker and Synthes. The two-day class included lectures, case studies and a cadaver laboratory on the topic Controversies on the most common pattern of degenerative arthritis in the wrist, known within the medical community as SLAC (Scaphoid Lunate Advanced Collapse) Wrist.
The visiting professors were Scott W. Wolfe, MD of the Hospital for Special Surgery, New York, NY and Marco M. Rizzo, MD of the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. The session was moderated by Scott Edwards, MD, of The CORE Institute, who also helped coordinate the day’s events. The objectives were 1) to understand the current thoughts on unresolved issues pertaining to SLAC wrist injuries; 2) to offer new techniques to patients that will improve their outcome; and 3) to skillfully practice techniques of SLAC wrist reconstruction.
