Pima Medical Institute has announced its newest Arizona campus, which will serve Phoenix, Glendale, Peoria, Sun City, Goodyear, Scottsdale and other nearby areas. It is the fourth campus Pima Medical Institute has opened in Arizona, with the first campus opening in Tucson in 1972.

Programs to be offered at the new campus, located at 13610 N. Black Canyon Highway, include the veterinary technician associate degree and certificate degrees in dental assistant, veterinary assistant, medical assistant, medical administrative assistant, central sterile processing and phlebotomy. In addition, Pima Medical plans to add more associate degree programs at the new campus in the near future, said Chief Executive Officer and President, Fred Freedman.

“Pima Medical Institute has been researching opportunities in north Phoenix for some time now,” Freedman said. “As the community need for healthcare increases, so does the need for trained healthcare professionals. Our labor market surveys and meetings with employers have been incredible. We couldn’t be more excited about the new career opportunities for our graduates.”

In August of 2014, after Anthem College in Phoenix closed, Pima Medical Institute agreed to continue teaching courses at the campus so that the students, all studying veterinary technology, could graduate. Some of those students are still in the program and will finish at the new campus on Black Canyon Highway. The last cohort of former Anthem College students will graduate from Pima Medical in June of 2016. The former location was on Indian School Road.

“Pima Medical Institute students will have experience training in the workplace prior to graduation. This is what helps our students succeed,” Freedman said. “Students receive high-caliber job training with an internship component imbedded into every program.”

“Every program PMI offers goes thorough a curriculum review every two years. This comprehensive process includes feedback generated by employer/partner surveys, advisory boards, focus groups, student and graduate surveys, as well faculty members that serve as subject matter experts,” Freedman said. “Pima Medical is proud of its student outcomes and proud to open our fourth Arizona campus and third campus in the Phoenix metropolitan area.”

Pima Medical’s other Phoenix-area campuses are located in Mesa, one at 957 S. Dobson Road, and the other at 2160 S. Power Road. Each campus offers a variety of medical career programs.

The new Phoenix campus is conveniently located by West Thunderbird Road and Interstate 17.
