McCarthy Building Companies recently broke ground on the $167 million, 20-story Mirabella at ASU on the campus of Arizona State University, which is being developed by Pacific Retirement Services (PRS) in partnership with University Realty, a unit of ASU Enterprise Partners, both non-profit entities that raise private resources for the University.

Mirabella at ASU will offer seniors urban access and resort-style venues, including penthouse and apartment units ranging from 751 square feet to 2,665 square feet. The 20-story tower includes four dining venues, three of which are located on the penthouse level, an indoor pool and wellness center, an event center, a wood shop, game room, on-site physical therapy, a library and underground parking.

Under a collaboration agreement with ASU, residents of the Mirabella community will be able to attend and participate in ASU classes, activities and programs. PRS worked with the ASU Foundation to provide social opportunities, lifelong learning and entertainment opportunities that will offer a landing place for older, retired alumni and others desiring to reacquaint themselves with life in the Valley of the Sun.

“We’re living longer, we’re wanting to learn longer, we’re wanting to contribute longer,” said ASU President Michael M. Crow. “Mirabella will help contribute to senior success, connecting people who want to be lifelong learners with the university to be part of our overall teaching, learning and discovery environment.”

Portland-based Ankrom Moissan Architects designed the 613,992-square-foot tower.

Like other PRS continuing-care communities, Mirabella at ASU will have independent-living, assisted-living and memory-support options, and private suites with skilled nursing care. Mirabella at ASU will offer approximately 252 independent-living apartments, 11 assisted-living apartments, 20 memory-support suites, and 21 private skilled nursing suites.

“This project represents a unique concept in senior living, offering amenities like no other facility in the state, with access to lifelong learning opportunities in partnership with ASU,” said Justin Kelton, president of McCarthy Building Companies’ Southwest division. “We are proud to continue our relationship with ASU by building this landmark project on campus that will truly change lives and make a significant impact on the Greater Phoenix community.”

Major subcontractors include Buesing Corp., Castle Contracting LLC, Delta Diversified Enterprises Inc., IMCOR (Interstate Mechanical Corporation), and KT Fabrication Inc. Completion of the project is expected in August 2020. For more information, visit https://www.retirement.org/signature-community/mirabella-asu.
