Consumer-products manufacturer Conair Corp. has broken ground on the design-build construction of a new $40 million plus facility adjacent to their existing campus in the Glen Harbor Business Park.

This pushes the total Conair campus square footage in Glendale to 2.3 million sq.-ft. — that’s 52.8 acres under roof. — making the Glendale Conair Campus the second largest in the valley behind Intel.

Best known as the maker of curling irons and hair dryers, New Jersey-based Conair plans to complete construction on its new one million sq.-ft. Global distribution and e-commerce center by next July. The expansion also brings an estimated 300 new jobs to Glendale, for a total of 750 Conair employees in Glendale.

“Conair has had a presence in Glendale since 1992 and is extremely pleased to announce the creation of a new 1 million sq.-ft. state-of-the- art distribution center, with an internal three-level mezzanine,” said Conair Senior Vice President John Mayorek. “With this expansion effort, Conair will create a campus in the Glen Harbor Business Park totaling more than 2.3 million sq.-ft., bring hundreds of permanent jobs to the area and reaffirm its longstanding commitment to the city of Glendale and all its residents.”

The company already employs about 450 people at the Glendale Airpark, where it opened a distribution center in 1992 and went on to expand operations in the midst of the downturned national economy in 2009 by purchasing the former KB distribution center and opening a national return center.

Conair has plans for 300 New Glendale jobs

The Glendale Conair facility expansion brings an estimated 300 new jobs to the city. Those will include data entry, shipping, receiving and warehousing work, online customer service reps, management and executive staff to support their worldwide operations. Conair’s expansion nearly doubles the company’s presence in the city.

“Conair’s continued and significant investment in Glendale is welcomed and appreciated,” said Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps. “With this expansion, the company’s Glendale operations will be the second largest corporate campus in the metro Phoenix area. Conair is a great example of the type of Quality Company and household name that we want to continue to attract and assist to expand in the city.”

The company should begin distribution center operations in 2017 and expand to hiring 300 employees by 2020.
